How can I ensure protection of my employee rights?

The job outlook for Southern California, and specifically the Inland Empire, appears to be improving. According to a number of recent articles, including one in The Desert Sun, the jobless rate in the region fell in October. Riverside County recorded a decline of two-tenths of 1 percent. The rate for the Inland Empire as a whole was down by one-tenth of 1 percent.

Overall, the unemployment rate still rides over 8 percent. Economists acknowledge that's high compared to the rest of the country, but they observe that the number is moving in the right direction. The report says job growth increased 2.4 percent over the course of the previous year.

That is definitely good news, but it does beg some questions. For example, what is the nature of those jobs? Do they pay fair compensation? Are employers fulfilling all their obligations as spelled out by such laws as the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and the California Family Rights Act (CFRA)?

That such questions need to be asked and possibly addressed is not hard to dispute. All you have to do is look at recent headlines to understand that labor issues such as discrimination, harassment, family leave rights and pay continue to be the source of significant discontent.

Addressing that discontent is something that many are afraid to take on. Many may fear they will lose that job they struggled so hard to get. Others may simply not know what their rights are and presume they have no options.

These are all too commons situations. But they don't have to be left to fester. Justice can be ensured by seeking the counsel of experienced employment law attorneys. The key is to take the first step to learn more.
